Mal Helgadottir primarily works on defense litigation matters in all areas of insurance defense.
Activities and Accomplishments
Ms. Helgadottir worked as a Student Clinician in Cardozo's Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic during her second year of law school where she worked on a variety of matters, including a federal class action suit in the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, she co-authored an amicus brief submitted to the New Jersey Supreme Court and ultimately cited in the New Jersey Supreme Court's opinion in that case, and worked on a post-conviction relief case that resulted in successfully overturning a wrongful conviction. Ms. Helgadottir continued in Cardozo's Kathryn O. Greenberg Immigration Justice Clinic as an Advanced Student Clinician during her third year of law school during which time she co-authored another amicus brief submitted to the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.
Ms. Helgadottir also served as a Staff Editor during her second year of law school on Cardozo's Arts & Entertainment Law Journal, one of the leading intellectual property law journals in the country. Ms. Helgadottir was subsequently elected to serve on the Managing Board as the Executive Editor of Cardozo's Arts & Entertainment Law Journal during her third year in law school.
Ms. Helgadottir was nominated and selected by Cardozo School of Law's faculty to receive the Jacob Burns Ethics Center in the Practice of Law Award at graduation. The award is given to "a student who has demonstrated commitment through scholarship, activity, and interest in advancing professionalism and access to justice."
